Plasma Fibroblast

WHAT DOES THE PLASMA FIBROBLAST TREATMENT INVOLVE?

The Plasma Fibroblast Skin Tightening treatment involves using a hand-held, electronic medical device that generates a plasma charge, or arc, from the ions in the air between the tip of the device and the surface of the skin. The energy is then transferred into the skin and activates the fibroblasts in the dermis to repair. At the point where the plasma arc touches the skin, a tiny carbon dot is produced due to the thermal reaction of the skin, and the skin around this dot contracts. When many small dots are created in an optimal grid-like pattern in a targeted area, the whole area contracts resulting in a visible tightening of the skin.

WHAT ARE FIBROBLASTS?

Fibroblasts are special cells in the dermis layer of the skin whose main function is to produce tropocollagen that fills the spaces between cells and fibres in connective tissue. They appear to play an important part in wound healing, as following tissue injury, they migrate to the site of damage where they deposit new collagen and facilitate the healing process.

DOES IT HURT?

As the procedure is non-invasive, the level of pain is minimal but you will experience a mild discomfort. We also use a topical anaesthetic to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. It's important to recognise that everyone has a different level of tolerance to pain, which can also be affected by personal circumstances including whether you are a smoker, are taking certain medications or even where you are in your menstrual cycle.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO PRIOR TO THE PROCEDURE?

You may like to plan events around your procedure accordingly, as the treated areas of skin will have a pattern of small carbon dots which will remain there for 7-10 days. Makeup cannot be applied for the first 5 days. We suggest arriving to your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Immediately after the procedure you will see a grid-like pattern of small carbon dots in the treated area. The area will be red and some swelling is likely, particularly around the eye area. Your skin will feel tight, warm and slightly tender.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS?

Your skin will feel tight, warm, dry, and slightly tender for a few days, and ice packs can be used to help reduce swelling. Apply the provided aftercare cream as instructed. The carbon dots will begin to crust and flake off around day 5-7, and it is very important not to pick at or try to remove the scabs as this can cause scarring. Avoid sun exposure during the healing process as the skin is very sensitive at this stage. A gentle, mineral makeup can be worn after day 5, and a good sunscreen should also be worn daily from this point on to protect the skin.

WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO SEE THE FINAL RESULT OF THE TREATMENT?

You will see an immediate tightening of the skin due to water evaporation, however true results of the collagen and elastin production will be seen at 8-12 weeks post treatment. During this time the appearance of your skin will fluctuate due to the healing process, so be patient.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

In many cases only 1 treatment is needed, however for this depends on skin type and your desired level of correction. For deeper lines or looser skin, 2 or 3 treatments may be required.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

The results are permanent. However, please bear in mind that even after the treatment your skin will naturally continue to age, and frequent and repetitive use of muscles under the skin can cause the lines to recur. The average visibility of results is around 3 years.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?

The procedure is safe as it is non-invasive and based on the natural stimulation of skin regeneration. Bespoke Brows uses the highest quality, most advanced, FDA approved device on the market.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS/SIDE EFFECTS?

  • Moderate swelling in the sensitive eye area is normal and expected, and in some cases, periorbital oedema (inflammation and puffiness around the eyes) can occur, however this is not usually serious and is only temporary. There are things you can do to help drain the fluid naturally and reduce the swelling.

  • Hyper/hypopigmentation is a risk for those with darker skin, and therefore this treatment is not recommended for skin type Fitzpatrick IV and higher.
